Taking care of yourself is the most important thing you can do. Taking care of your job, career and business is important, but if you don’t take care of yourself, it won’t matter if you’re unhealthy, unhappy or dead. The better you take care of yourself, the less stress you’ll have, and the more healthy, successful and happier you’ll be. So what can we do to take better care of ourselves?


Love yourself. If you don’t love yourself, you won’t take care of yourself.


Take care of you physical health. Get enough sleep, 7-8 hours nightly. Take a nap when you don’t. Sleep in. Drink plenty of water, 7-8 glasses per day. Minimize caffeine. Exercise and stretch regularly. Do weight training and cardio. Get outside. Go for a walk, hike, swim or bike ride. Eat a healthy, balanced diet. Snack between meals. Don’t eat junk food or drink soda. Fast regularly. Indulge occasionally. Minimize alcohol consumption or eliminate it. Don’t smoke. Take care of your personal hygiene. Get regular check-ups. Take supplements and vitamins. Get regular massages. Wear comfortable shoes. Upgrade your wardrobe. Take a hot bath or Jacuzzi. Do a detoxification cleanse. Hire a trainer.


Take care of your emotional health. Have a positive attitude. Avoid negative thinking and negative self- talk. Recite positive affirmations. Be grateful. Spend quality time alone and with friends. Stay away from toxic or negative people. Express your feelings. Journal. Have hobbies and do activities you enjoy. Go to the movies, a concert, ball game or a museum. Paint, dance or take pictures. Sing, listen to or play music. Have a job, career or business that is fulfilling. Don’t over commit yourself. Schedule downtime to do nothing and relax. Laugh and smile more. Watch a funny movie, go to a comedy show or read the comics. Catch up with an old friend or family member. Write poetry. Remove physical and emotional clutter. Clear your desk, empty your email and clean out your closets. Travel. Take vacations. Take leisurely drives. Day dream. Create a vision board. Hire a life coach.


Take care of your mental health. Keep your mind sharp. Read. Learn new things. Play challenging games. Disconnect from the internet, social media, email or your cellphone periodically. Listen to or watch personal development and professional recordings or videos. Attend personal and professional development workshops and seminars. Hire a business coach.

Take care of your spiritual health. Practice religion or spirituality. Pray and meditate regularly. Do yoga. Go on a retreat. Get a spiritual advisor.

Take care of your financial health. Have a job, career or business where you earn enough money. Save money. Invest wisely. Minimize risk. Don’t overspend. Don’t over borrow. Minimize debt or be debt free. Indulge occasionally. Get a financial advisor.


So you can see there are many ways that we can take better care of ourselves. Are you doing them? Why not? You’re worth it! If you don’t take of yourself, who will? And you’ll be healthier, happier and more successful and have less stress. Here’s to your health, happiness, wealth and success.
